Be fearless. BE FEARLESS! Fear -LESS! This is the core of the inspirational talk that kicked off the InnoTech Dallas Conference - Women in Tech Summit on Wednesday 4/19/23. The phrase has followed me through the years from my time as a high school robotics nerd at Berkner High School (aptly named for an esteemed physicist) on the BHS Fearless Robotics Team (go 136!!) To my alma mater UT Dallas’ own Fearless Engineering program at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. But Paula didn't know that at the time I was sitting and listening to her speak. Neither did she know that her words were exactly what I needed to hear after having taken a huge leap by quitting my job without anywhere to land, knowing deep down that I had to make a change. She would aptly point out in her talk that I had used my G.P.S., Gut Power System, by trusting myself because "Who knows you better than you." She encouraged us to: Ask, Believe, and Receive! I won’t be afraid to accept the rewards of my hard work. I intend to do just that. Work hard. And yes, I will be wearing red lipstick to the office! I can't wait to get more inspiration listening to Paula's podcast and, hopefully, hearing her speak many times more!

Before coaching with Paula, my career felt like it was at a dead end, and that I would never achieve happiness during the 9-5 hours of the day. This often caused me to feel down on Sunday evenings, which eventually bled in Sunday, and so on impacting my personal life. The most impactful experience during our time working together was discovering that having my career being driven primarily by outside factors was a leading cause of my not having enjoyment in it. It was realizing that I didn't have an answer to "what do you want to do with your career" because it had never been a factor up until then. In a nutshell, I was letting life happen to me, rather than taking charge of my career. I have gained a lot from our sessions, beyond newly found confidence (which I also gained). I discovered what my personal mission is, and why it is important to find and work for a company that has a similar mission. During our time working together, the most impactful experience was being able to identify negative patterns in my current life scenario that I didn't even know were there, and how to correct them. The main thing that I enjoyed about working with Paula was that she is down to earth. Up until now, all career discussions that I have held have been the finely polished, false feeling front of success that fit in a corporate environment. Paula was very professional, but also very real and talked to me like an actual human being, not a co-worker or a contact within the same organization.
